Your Week 12 Prep Guide

Everything you need to know ...

It may have taken John Madden only a couple of seconds to tear apart a turducken, but it takes hours to create one and can take up to 12 hours to fully cook it. This shows just how much preparation people have to go through to successfully navigate the start of the holiday season.

Fantasy managers won’t need anywhere near that much prep time to get their fantasy squads ready for the close of the fantasy football regular season and for the playoffs. In fact, our team at Fantasy Life can keep that prep time to a minimum and thus give you more time to prep your turduckens (or whatever other dishes you are making for Thanksgiving Day).

Here are many of the ways that Fantasy Life can help you with this. Let’s go over this by category, starting with Week 12 assistance.

Bye weeks: If you have players on a bye, you will want to check out the article from Danny Cross that gives you the best Week 12 bye-week replacement options. Jacoby Brissett, Sean Tucker and Christian Watson all get top billing from Cross.

Running backs: The running back position got obliterated with injuries this past week. That put many fantasy managers into scramble mode when figuring out who to start at running back. Matthew Freedman’s Week 12 RB rankings can be of great assistance here. One of his most interesting insights is that Alvin Kamara could have a very good game this week versus a subpar Atlanta rush defense.

Deep-dive Week 12 matchup review: If you want to get into deep-dive analysis for all of the Week 12 matchups, be sure to check out Kendall Valenzuela and Ian Hartitz breaking down every Week 12 matchup for fantasy football. This video is just over an hour long, but that hour flies by because this duo jams so much information into a 60-minute window.

Trade analysis: The trade deadline has passed in some leagues, but that deal window is still open in many leagues. If you are in the latter, be sure to read Chris Allen’s Fantasy Football Trade Analyzer Advice article. Allen provides you with many buy-low candidates, such as Jakobi Meyers and Pat Bryant. He also has a section on “Finding the Right Fantasy Football Trade Value” that gives some really useful insights into successfully navigating the trade markets.

Rest-of-season rankings: There are still more than enough weeks left on the fantasy football schedule to get a huge roster benefit from looking ahead. Use the fantasy football rest-of-season rankings from Gene Clemons to get ahead of this curve. George Kittle tops Gene’s list of players who are likely to excel down the stretch.

Guillotine Leagues™: Those in Guillotine Leagues know that this time of year is incredibly competitive in this league format. Matt LaMarca has you covered here with his Week 12 rest-of-season Guillotine rankings. LaMarca’s top suggestions include Ja’Marr Chase and Trey McBride.

About Last Night …

Josh Allen is one tough hombre, but following getting sacked eight times on Thursday Night Football, he’ll be feeling it today. After blowing up for 6 TDs last Sunday, Allen mustered 253 passing yards and 0 TDs as the Houston defense held on for a 23-19 win. Here are the highlights:

Your Start/Sit Guide To Week 12

START: Jordan Love, QB, GB

LAGHEZZA: Add Green Bay’s narrow escape from New York last Sunday to an ever-growing list of relative disappointments. Sure, the Pack broke a two-game losing streak by eclipsing 17 points for just the first time in three games—while losing arguably their best player. Wait, so why do we like Jordan Love again this weekend?

The answer, as almost always, lies in the matchup. For starters, potentially losing Josh Jacobs could force GB to adopt a more pass-heavy approach. Backup Emanuel Wilson’s perfectly cromulent as a second fiddle—though his 43% success rate and -0.14 EPA/attempt tell me to temper expectations for anything near an apples-to-apples swap from Jacobs.

Boost Green Bay’s pass rate against Brian Flores’ hyper-aggressive defensive scheme, and what do you get? Jordan Love in a prime spot to break out Sunday—he’s third among all QBs in Blitz EPA, with eight touchdowns to just five sacks against extra rushers this season. I also love the prospect of a few deep shots to GB’s new WR1 since returning from IR, Christian Watson.

None of that even mentions the systemic failures on the Vikings’ offensive side, with J.J. McCarthy’s league-worst 5.7% INT rate offering short fields every week. Jordan Love collects his third top fantasy finish by going for 300 and three TDs on Sunday … who says no?

START: Andrei Iosivas, WR, CIN

CLEMONS: This is still the Bengals, and thus the Bengals defense against a Patriots offense that is red hot. They will need to pass the ball. With no Ja'Marr Chase to throw to, Iosivas is the next man up. He is a big-bodied receiver who we have already seen have a WR11 finish just three weeks ago. He will not get all of the Chase targets, but he should get a healthy injection of them.

There is also a chance that Joe Burrow is back for this one. Can you say “rocket boost?” I can, and with Tee Higgins likely drawing Christian Gonzalez in coverage and the Patriots have one of the best rush defenses in the NFL, so running the ball will not be easy. It opens the door for a massive day from the former Princeton Tiger regardless of who is passing him the ball.

Week 12 Smash Starts: Brock Purdy To The Moon 🚀

You can always count on a Kyle Shanahan offense. In Brock Purdy’s return to action, he threw for a clean 200 yards and 3 touchdowns. The efficient performance, in only his third start of the season, was good for 19.3 fantasy points. Now, he gets a sneaky-solid matchup against a Carolina defense that will be primarily focusing on shutting down the San Francisco running game.

Purdy cracks into the Top 10 as the consensus QB9 for Week 12.

Now that his first game back from injury is out of the way, the 49ers signal-caller could explode past his projections in this prime situational spot. Carolina’s defense has certainly shown flashes in some big spots, but they are a classic pass-funnel that Purdy can easily exploit.

Carolina Defense 2025 (Weeks 1-11)

  • EPA per play 0.07 (24th)

  • EPA per rush -0.03 (15th)

  • EPA per pass 0.14 (29th)

Not only has the Panthers secondary been vulnerable on multiple occasions this year, but they have allowed the big chunk plays that can elevate Purdy into top-tier production. Opposing quarterbacks have ripped off 33 explosive pass plays on Carolina (eighth-highest), and benefited from the Panthers’ generous 10.7 yards per completion allowed (seventh-highest).

Last week, Michael Penix Jr. completed 13 of 16 passes before exiting with an injury. The Falcons, a bottom-five scoring offense, throttled the Panthers for 21 first-half points.

In a very meaningful Monday night game, I expect the 49ers offense to get rolling early and often behind the arm of Brock Purdy. I suggest you do the same. If you don’t have an elite option at QB, slide Purdy into your lineup and enjoy watching your opponent crash out late Monday night.
