You'll Have To Pay Up For These Two
2026 drafts ...
It’s always nice when a plan comes together. And if you read our draft guide at Fantasy Life, you know those plans heavily featured rookies.
I’d say it was a mixed bag for rookies on the whole this year—the top-end guys like Ashton Jeanty, Tetairoa McMillan and Omarian Hampton flashed, but underperformed relative to their draft cost due to poor situations and/or injuries—but a handful of rookies spiked down the stretch in a big way.
Both Tyler Shough and Harold Fannin Jr. delivered three straight solid finishes in the fantasy playoffs, but I don’t think anyone did more for their 2026 draft stock in Week 17 than the two Bears rookies …
🚀 Luther Burden (23.8; WR1) - It took most of the season for Ben Johnson to finally unleash Burden, but he put on a show vs. the Niners on SNF (8-138-1) and flashed a versatile skill set. He finishes the season in elite company among fellow rookie WRs over the years. Unfortunately, he’s going to be expensive as hell next year (and rightfully so) …
Projected 2026 draft cost: Round 3 in best ball; Round 4-5 in home leagues.
🚀 Colston Loveland (18.4; TE2) - Loveland was underutilized for most of the year, but also finished on a high note. When you combine his pedigree + solid QB play + an elite offensive system, it’s hard not to get bullish about his future prospects. Paying up for TE will remain a hot topic this coming offseason, but you’re going to have no choice if you want 2026 shares of Loveland.
Projected 2026 draft cost: Round 6 in best ball; Rounds 8-9 in home leagues.
Other rookies who saw their stock rise down the stretch: Jayden Higgins, Jaylin Noel and yes, Bill.

About Last Night … Bijan With Extra Mustard FTW
Did Bijan Robinson and his 39.9 points give you that Monday night championship miracle? Maybe he fueled a comeback after Derrick Henry did his thing on Saturday. Whatever happened, Week 17 is in the books after the Falcons stunned the Rams with a 27-24 last-second win. Highlights, please:
Bijan was plenty sweet on this 93-yard house call. That 229 scrimmage yards and 2 TDs is pretty, pretty, pretty good.
Did you start the Rams DST? Jared Verse to the house!
This Matthew Stafford-to-Puka screen swung some championships.
Did Puka catch it? So did Dez.

Ian Hartitz’s Six Lessons From The 2025 Season
We laughed. We cried. We won. We lost.
But through it all, we had fun. Right? RIGHT?!
Regardless of whether you won your fantasy league or captured the dreaded last-place punishment, the clock is ticking to get ready for 2026, where we will once again attempt to capture bragging rights over friends, family and/or internet strangers by winning a fantasy football championship.
This brings us to today's goal: Six lessons I learned from the 2026 fantasy season.
As always: It's a great day to be great.
Lesson No. 1: Old, boring veteran RBs can still put up good fantasy numbers
This has always been true at QB, while RBs have usually peaked in the 22-27 range, and WRs/TEs more so in their mid-to-late 20s.
But not always. Rookie fever tends to capture the imagination of the fantasy community on an annual basis, and hey, that's cool. It's important to be on the up-and-up with knowing as much as we can about the new, shiny fantasy assets.
Of course, sometimes folks go a bit too far in their belief in these year one players—particularly those without marquee draft capital. The hit rate of day-three talents is VERY minimal both overall and during rookie seasons, yet the following 2026 ballers were largely expected to lose their job to their team's respective new late-round RB.
Jaguars RB Travis Etienne: RB12 in PPR points per game, RB37 in preseason ADP
Cowboys RB Javonte Williams: RB13 per game, RB43 ADP
Bears RB D'Andre Swift: RB15 per game, RB25 ADP
Now, there are exceptions to this rule—Giants RB Cam Skattebo carried Round 4 draft capital and looked a lot like what the kids would call a league-winner before suffering an unfortunate season-ending ankle injury—but hell, even guys with day one and two draft capital like Omarion Hampton, RJ Harvey, TreVeyon Henderson and (especially) Kaleb Johnson faced far steeper competition from their team's veteran options than expected.
Be sure to think twice before automatically fading the Week 1 starting RB inside a good offense at a low cost just because of a newfound threat that may or may not actually be, you know, good at football.⤵️

Week 18: Embrace the Weirdest Fantasy Week
Yes, we can’t get enough of fantasy, even after the 17-week rollercoaster ride just ended with plenty of heartbreak and triumph. Now comes the weirdest week on the NFL calendar, where benchwarmers become stars while the real stars gaze at either the playoffs or sunshine and umbrella drinks in Cabo. So John Laghezza, instead of running from this week takes it head on with several splash plays to consider for DFS, roto and even those leagues with Week 18 championships (PSA: Talk to your commissioner about ending at Week 17 next season). If he clears injury, Lamar Jackson could write a fairy-tale ending:
“For my money, there isn’t a better developing hero reclamation arc anywhere in the league than Lamar’s. Baltimore recreated a struggling offense back into a true threat, while backup QB Tyler Huntley stepped in to lead Raven wins against the Bears and Packers. The troops are rallying.
“You could see the abject disappointment in Jackson’s face when a back injury kept him out on Saturday night. But fear not, King Henry slayed Green Bay’s dairy dragon with a ridiculous (36-216-4) effort. Like I said, there’s a Hollywood feel forming around this team.”
Laghezza went position-by-position with players he’s recommending could make big splashes this week, either depending on playing time opening up or overall situation. If you’re still playing for something, and we know you are, this is worth the read.⤵️
