Veteran WR Injuries & Who To Add

The next man up ...

If you drafted an older WR in the fifth round of fantasy drafts this year, they are most likely hurt.

Let’s survey the damage and spitball some ideas on how to recover (or capitalize) on these injuries …

WAS: Terry McLaurin 🚑️ > Antonio Williams/Chig Okonkwo

Injury: tore the patellar tendon in his left knee; out for the year

Who benefits? Chig hauled in 7 targets after McLaurin left the game. Our rankings team have him as a fringe top-12 TE for the rest of the season … The rookie, Williams, also gets a big boost. His route share spiked from 40% > 78% without McLaurin. He joins Omar Cooper and Ja’Kobi Lane as must-adds this week.

SF: Mike Evans 🚑️ > Christian Kirk

Injury: Achilles tendinitis flare-up; not a tear, but Shanahan wouldn’t commit to him playing Sunday vs. Atlanta (team may hold him out through the Week 8 bye)

Who benefits? The Niners’ options at WR are bleak right now, but Christian Kirk—who has been on IR and is available in most leagues—had his practice window open up last week and Shanahan said he’s a possibility for Week 7. Kirk doesn’t have “league-winning” upside like the rookies, but he’d be a very viable spot-start vs. the Falcons on Sunday if he’s active.

LAR: Davante Adams 🚑️ > Tyler Higbee

Injury: ruptured hamstring, out 6–10 weeks (optimistic return a little after the Week 11 bye)

Who benefits? I’ve seen enough from the backup Rams WRs to know it ain’t happening for Jordan Whittington nor Konata Mumpfield at this point, but the TEs are very interesting. Higbee is a smash vs. the Raiders this week if you need a spot-start (he had an83% route share in Week 6).

Ferguson—who is eligible to return from IR in Week 8, but it might be later—will be busy when he gets back, but prioritize Higbee for now.
