Turn The Injuries Off
We can't have nice things ...
We've talked a lot this offseason about how running backs have stayed healthy over the past couple seasons, how entering your drafts you might look to double tap the running back position with your first two picks and now … we have injury news that could change our draft plans. If someone could please snap one of those "wishing sticks" in half and just beg for the injuries to stop that would be very appreciated. But if that doesn't work, I guess we need another strategy.
The key here is monitoring these injuries, but especially with the wide receivers. Before this we considered the third and fourth round one of the deepest spots to get a pass catcher, and now we will have to wait for positive updates on a handful of players.
Jordyn Tyson Will Miss Time With Hamstring Injury
This one hurts my soul to write, but we knew how Jordyn Tyson had an injury history coming into the NFL. Unfortunately, Tyson has a hamstring injury and will miss time. HC Kellen Moore said that Tyson's injury is not a result of his previous hamstring issues that he dealt with at Arizona State. Mike Garafolo added that Tyson is seeking multiple opinions, so his timeline to return is on hold, but that it "doesn’t seem it’ll be anytime soon."
Tyson's current ADPs have climbed since being drafted to the Saints—his ADP differs across different platforms, with his ADP on Underdog sitting at 63.6 to pick 98.5 on ESPN. I have taken a lot of Tyson shares. His 88 Rookie Super Model Rating ranks 15th all-time since 2018, and the discussion of a 1A-1B situation in New Orleans only made him even more enticing. Now he's going to be a much tougher click unless we get better news in the coming weeks. The Saints really lack a proven WR3, with Devaughn Vele and Bryce Lance competing for reps.
Emeka Egbuka Toe Injury
Might I interest you in some good news? It looks like Emeka Egbuka underwent more tests with a specialist and it has been reported by Rick Stroud that he has a toe sprain, but the Buccaneers are "very optimistic" that he will be ready for Week 1. This is not the same injury that Egbuka suffered last season—he picked up a hamstring injury in Week 6 and really wasn't the same after.
I still hold true that Egbuka should be Matthew Berry's Ride or Die this season. With this update Egbuka is also still a great pick at cost, especially considering some of the injuries to receivers going off the board around him. Egbuka is projected for 136 targets, 83 receptions, 1,118 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns.
Jeremiyah Love Out at Least a Week
Another unfortunate update is with rookie Jeremiyah Love. It looks like he will miss a week with the ankle injury he sustained during the first preseason game. New HC Mike LaFleur told reporters on Saturday morning that Love’s ankle is a “little more sore” and now he will be out for next Saturday’s preseason game against the Cowboys.
There shouldn't be as much concern with Love's injury considering the Cardinals Week 1 game isn't until Sept. 13 against the Chargers. You could see him fall slightly in drafts and he has been moved slightly down our fantasy football rankings at Fantasy Life and now is the consensus RB22.

Introducing Receiver Score
If a pass catcher draws on average 18% of targets, what happens to the remaining 82%? That begs a good question, because receivers very well could have gotten open on a good chunk of those routes, just for whatever reason the QB went elsewhere, got sacked or scrambled out of the pocket for a running play. Zain Dhanani aimed to measure those routes to determine a player’s ability. So was born Receiver Score.
Zain then breaks down four WRs to see what their score says about their talent and offensive environment. Keep an eye out for more, because during the season this will become a weekly feature at Fantasy Life. ⤵️
Waiting Game When Drafting From The 1.10
Tom Petty once sang, “the waiting is the hardest part.” True, but it can be worth it. Chris Allen compared drafting from the 1.10 to a long wait where he can either chat up fellow people in line or catch up on an audiobook. You’re not feeling impatient, because something good is coming. That’s the 1.10.
One of the best WRs in the NFL—we could be talking about Justin Jefferson—may just be waiting for you toward the end of Round 1. That’s a pretty good consolation after the RB run we expect earlier. So does this set up for a Zero-RB build? See what Chris has to say in the continuation of his series. ⬇️
