The Game No One Saw Coming

Week 7 recap...

What a nutty day of football. Here are 7 things that caught my eye in Week 7 …

🚑️ Down goes Jayden. We spent all week looking forward to Commanders vs. Cowboys, only to watch Jayden Daniels get hurt (he’s getting an MRI for his hamstring today) and for Dallas to run away with the game, 44-22. At least CeeDee Lamb (5-110-1) looked great in his return to action.

💥 The real game of the week? Meanwhile, the Broncos and Giants delivered us the fireworks we expected from the Dallas game, including a hilarious 40-point fantasy explosion from Bo Nix. Denver trailed 19-0 heading into the 4th quarter and then scored 33 points—an NFL record.

🎩 The hat trick trio. Jonathan Taylor has a hat trick of hat tricks this season. How insane is that? Quinshon Judkins also found paydirt thrice while following in the footsteps of Kimani Vidal and Rico Dowdle vs. an abysmal Dolphins squad. And last but not least, Davante Adams caught 3 TDs across the pond in the Rams’ 35-7 drubbing of the Jaguars.

🦅 The Eagles got their wings back. It’s been a sluggish start to the 2025 season for the Philly passing game, but DeVonta Smith (9-183-1) and A.J. Brown (4-121-2) finished as the Top 2 highest scoring WRs on the day thanks to an efficient outing from Jalen Hurts (19/23, 326 yards, 3 TDs).

📆 National TE day came early? It’s technically not until next week, but Oronde Gadsen (7-164-1), Trey McBride (10-74-2), Jake Ferguson (7-29-2), Daniel Bellinger (3-88-1), Tyler Warren (4-69-1) and Tucker Kraft (5-58-1) got the festivities rolling early. I honestly didn’t know McBride was capable of scoring twice in a game. Are we sure that’s allowed? Related: We need Jacoby Brissett to stay QB like a fish needs water.

📈 Interesting rookie usage trends. We finally got what we’ve all been waiting for—a true full-time offensive role for Travis Hunter. And guess what? It resulted in a 30% target share and 24.1 fantasy points … The aforementioned Gadsen breakout is here and it’s glorious … Speaking of rookies, Brashard Smith continues to make stuff happen whenever the Chiefs throw him the ball. He needs to be rostered everywhere.

🙏 R.I.P. Muscle Hamster. We got devastating news during the games yesterday that legendary RB Doug Martin passed away at the completely unfair age of 36. Martin totaled 5,356 yards and 30 TDs over his career and was a favorite in fantasy football circles for his unique blend of size and power.

One Thing We Learned From Every Week 7 Game

Quinshon Judkins came into a Week 7 smash spot and … well … smashed—to the tune of 84 rushing yards and a trio of scores on the ground. Even in a dumpster fire of an offense, does Judkins deserve rest-of-season RB1 treatment?

And speaking of touchdown hat tricks, Jonathan Taylor did it for the third time this season, officially hitting the 10-touchdown mark on the season. With Puka Nacua on the shelf, is Taylor the rest-of-season 1.01?

Looking Ahead to Week 8 with Kendall …

IT'S TIME. We've prepared for this moment for the last few weeks. I hope you're ready for … BYE-MAGGEDON!

There are six total teams on a bye this coming week—the Cardinals, Lions, Jaguars, Raiders, Rams and Seahawks. There are definitely good streamer options at quarterback this week. We also did not have major injuries during Week 7 (there were, of course, some possibly harsh ones), which was a nice change of pace. My best advice is to always (but this week especially) make sure that when your waivers run, you look at dropped players immediately.

Kyle Monangai, RB, Bears (7% Rostered)

The Kyle Monangai waiver wire write-up has finally paid off! He got a career-best 17.4 fantasy points on Sunday against the Saints and his role is continuing to grow behind D'Andre Swift. He ran the ball 13 times for 81 yards and a touchdown while also adding two catches for 13 receiving yards.

We always figured that Monangai could carve out a role in this offense because of what Ben Johnson did with the Lions. We're not taking it THAT far yet, but Monangai is someone to stash with the potential of having standalone value sooner rather than later.

Monangai, a rookie out of Rutgers, was Thor Nystrom's RB25 in his pre-draft rankings, with a comp of Sincere McCormick. Do with that info what you will!

Oronde Gadsden, TE, Chargers (3% Rostered)

Was this a breakout game?? It sure did look like it! Even though the Chargers lost against the Colts, Gadsden walked away with seven catches for 164 yards and a touchdown. We have to take into consideration that the Chargers were trailing for most of this game and quarterback Justin Herbert had a season-high 55 attempts, but the usage has been trending upwards and that means Gadsden needs to be on all radars.

According to the Utilization Report, Gadsden had an 88 UR Score in Week 6, so anyone paying attention shouldn't be too surprised by this. Gadsden now has three games within the Top 14 among TEs this season.
