Saquon Barkley Making RB1 Case

Eagles Take Commanding NFC East Lead

The battle for first place in the NFC East didn’t result in one of the most fantasy-friendly games. The surprising Washington Commanders had a chance to go into Philadelphia and take control of the division. Instead, Saquon Barkley had 2 rushing touchdowns and Jalen Hurts added 1, and it was enough for a 26-18 victory on Thursday night. The Eagles won their sixth straight game to improve to 8-2 and Washington dropped to 7-4. Here are the Friday FAQs.

  1. Was letting Saquon Barkley fall to the end of round one a mistake?

It sure was. Many are regretting letting Barkley fall that late. This is the best team and offensive line he has played with. While Hurts has vultured touchdowns, it hasn’t mattered. Barkley had a dominant performance and now leads the NFL with 1,137 rushing yards for the season. He finished with 26 carries for 146 yards and caught 2 passes for an additional 52 yards. His Utilization Score of 8.5 going into the game is sure to rise. A.J. Brown caught 5 passes for 65 yards and DeVonta Smith caught 4 passes for 29 yards.

  1. What happened to the Washington wide receivers?

The Eagles have done a great job limiting wide receivers, but Washington barely tested the cornerbacks. The Commanders came out with a run-heavy approach, and the passes went to running backs and tight ends. Terry McLaurin was targeted just twice and caught 1 pass for 10 yards. Noah Brown was targeted 4 times and caught a 4-yard pass. It was a nightmare game if you started them.

  1. Was there anything positive for Washington?

Brian Robinson made his return after missing two games due to a hamstring injury. He looked good and had an impressive touchdown run. Robinson rushed 16 times for 63 yards and caught a 9-yard pass. Austin Ekeler led the team in targets with 9, catching 8 passes for 89 yards. Zach Ertz had 2 receptions until the final drive in the fourth quarter and finished with 6 catches for 47 yards with a touchdown. He also caught a two-point conversion.

  1. Jayden Daniels had another bad game. What happened?

Daniels has faced two good defenses in the span of five days after facing the Steelers this past Sunday. The rookie passed for 191 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He rushed for only 18 yards on 7 carries. Daniels never looked comfortable, was under pressure, and has rushed for 23 yards on 10 carries the last two weeks. The rookie injured his ribs on Oct. 20 against the Panthers, and it could be affecting his ability to run.

A Deep Sleeper To Start At WR and Laghezza’s RBs To Boot

  • By Gene Clemons and John Laghezza

Welcome to the world's greatest Start/Sit column, where John Laghezza and Gene Clemons dig deep into their fantasy football bag of tricks with non-obvious, outside-the-box lineup advice. John's a numbers guy (who writes our betting newsletter), Gene is a literal football coach (who is on our Tuesday LG show, Saturday College Football Pregame Show, and Sunday morning SiriusXM program)—what more could you ask for?

Let's jump in!

Laghezza's Week 11 RBs To Start

Browns (at Saints) — Who doesn't love rooting for Nick Chubb? Plus, the now fantasy-friendly Browns have the always-exciting Jameis Winston under center. The vertical threat he poses is exactly what I want to key in on.

Winston is, let’s be nice and call it “cavalier” attitude, and keeps secondaries on their heels. Forget the Deshaun Watson weeks—Cedric Tillman and David Njoku represent legitimate threats to any defense. Sure, Chubb has struggled the last two games (31-91-0; 1-4-0), but scuffling versus the Chargers and Ravens is far from embarrassing.

Unable to stack the box, we finally get the Chubb breakout against a Saints D ranking bottom-3 in EPA/rush, success rate, yards/rush, and rushing TDs. Deeper leagues in bye-week hell may even consider capable pass catcher and big-play threat Jerome Ford.

Jets (vs. Colts) — Oh, the Jets. What’s been the bumpiest of rides for anyone in kelly green may still unbelievably end in a postseason berth (ducks). I know, I know (ducks again). New York is only two games behind Denver as the 7-seed, with one of the other teams in its way on the docket Sunday. It’s a must-win for the Airplanes.

Despite some clunkers, queue up first-round letdown Breece Hall in all formats for a big breakout. GMs in deeper 14-teamers need to squeeze Braelon Allen into FLEX spots—the rookie is averaging 8 touches a game over a three-week span. Allen’s high success rate in short-yardage situations could land him in the end zone and pay off as an ignored bye-week stream.

Gene’s Bold Prediction: Start Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati TE

With Tee Higgins out last week, many thought Gesicki was the play—but he did not have the day most expected. I believe this makes it a perfect time to play him this week. What are the chances that Ja’Marr Chase goes full Super Saiyan again and produces a 264-yard and 3-touchdown day? Not likely. Even if Higgins comes back, Gesicki seems to be the No. 3 target. His targets have been consistent over the past three weeks, and this Bengals passing offense has been clicking.

The Chargers have been playing really well over the past few games. They've won four of their last five and three straight, but, respectfully, none of those teams have a quarterback comparable to Joe Burrow, who has been on fire. LA’s areas of vulnerability will be exploited by Burrow, and while they are focused on stopping Chase, Gesicki will work the middle of the field and even grab some targets in the red zone. Look for him to have a quality day in fantasy.
