Really It's FINE
Are these WR moves and rumors a sign of more to come?
PRESENTED BY |
Ladies and gentleman, start your engines because NFL free agency is upon us! And the drama is already beginning. As a Seahawks fan, no we are not OK, but thanks for checking in on us. Today, Adam and I are going to go back and forth on the best wide receiver fantasy landing spots. For more receiver landing spots, check out this article from Ian Hartitz. Enjoy! | ![]() Kendall Valenzuela & Adam Ronis |
DK Metcalf on the Move?
Kendall: Ummm, yeah, personally I still have not processed this. I asked for the day off to grieve, but it's FINE. On the same day that the Seahawks announced they were releasing Tyler Lockett, the bigger shock came when DK Metcalf requested a trade. (SCREAMS).
As a Seahawks fan, I continue to tell myself that the Seahawks don't have to trade Metcalf this offseason. If they don't get an offer they believe is fair, then Metcalf can stay on the team and these discussions can begin again for the 2026 season. However, this always runs the risk of the relationship between the Seahawks and Metcalf getting toxic. Reports from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini are suggesting that the Seahawks are seeking a first-and third-round pick for Metcalf. As for landing spots, I am very biased and hoping that the Seahawks are able to work out a deal with Metcalf. If they don't, a dream landing spot could be the Buffalo Bills, but more realistically I'm looking at the Packers.
They need a true WR1 and they especially need more depth in their wide receiver room after the late-season Christian Watson injury.
Adam: I’ll take a page from the Kendall positivity handbook and tell you Metcalf will stay in Seattle. DraftKings Sportsbook has Metcalf to the Seahawks and Chargers as co-favorites at +300. Still, it appears the Seahawks are going to listen to offers. There are many teams that can use Metcalf. The Bills are a good spot, as they clearly could use a No. 1 receiver. I will go with the Chargers. Ladd McConkey had a great rookie season, but the Chargers need more playmakers and Metcalf would be a great fit with Justin Herbert. He threw only 3 interceptions and did it without a great supporting cast. The Chargers have the salary cap space to get an extension done.
Captain Kirk
Kendall: MORE NEWS! Instead of releasing Christian Kirk the Jaguars found a trade partner and are sending him to the Houston Texans for a 2026 7th-round pick. They are also taking on Kirk's existing contract, which is set to pay him $16.5 million in 2025.
Kirk has dealt with injuries throughout his career and has missed 14 games over the past two seasons. From a fantasy lens, his career numbers for target share and YPRR all line up to a WR3. He has only one season above a 20% target share on his resume and has broken 2.00 YPRR only once. I don’t hate this landing spot, but won’t be going out of my way to draft him this offseason.
Adam: This is a really good deal for the Texans. They needed another receiver with Stefon Diggs coming off an ACL injury and a free agent, and Tank Dell likely to miss most of the season. Kirk is a great complement to Nico Collins. Kirk averaged a career-high 14 yards per reception in eight games last season. There’s a good chance Kirk can finish in the WR3 range and he will likely be cheaper in drafts.
Lockett Out
Kendall: This news didn't hurt as bad and was almost expected for Tyler Lockett. There wasn't a huge chance he'd be back for an 11th season because he was set to make $17 million while counting $30.8 million against the cap. It was an awesome run for Lockett in Seattle, but for us in fantasy football the decline really seemed to show this last season. Lockett will be 33 and is coming off a 12% target share and 1.10 YPRR. He finished with 600 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns (both his lowest totals since 2017).
I've seen a few links to Lockett and the Raiders because of new head coach Pete Carroll, but wherever he lands this might be the first season I'm off on drafting him. Now that I'm thinking about it, the Cowboys need some receiver help? Could be fun Adam??
Adam: Well, Lockett turns 33 in September and Jerry Jones might believe he has the power to bring back the Lockett we saw from 2018-22 like he did with Ezekiel Elliott last season. Last season was the first year I was out on Lockett in fantasy and it was timed correctly. Lockett is most likely to land with the Raiders. He’s a veteran who can help younger players and Pete Carroll is a big fan of Lockett. The Steelers and Broncos could also be options.

NFL Free Agency Roundtable
We’re just three days away from NFL free agency going into high gear on March 10 at high noon ET. The great thing about the NFL and how it conducts its annual shopping spree is that it happens quickly. Within days (maybe hours), we should get answers to these questions:
Where will Sam Darnold land?
Should teams prioritize Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson?
Can Najee Harris carry a full load?
What will happen for Tee Higgins this year? Stefon Diggs?
Chris Godwin going back to Tampa Bay?
These and other questions were posed to our panel of experts: Matthew Freedman, Kendall Valenzuela, and Ian Hartitz. Pull up a chair and take in their roundtable discussion on the fantasy—and NFL—implications of these free agency questions.⬇️
