Pray You Don't Have These 4 Players

Oof ...

We generally highlight the week-winning performances on Monday, but there’s a few players we need to hit the panic button on today …

Lamar Jackson headed for IR. Sunday was supposed to be a celebration—Lamar returning after a three-week absence due to a left-ankle sprain to face off in a high-scoring tilt for the Bills.

Instead, it turned into a horror movie after he injured his thumb on Baltimore’s FIRST OFFENSIVE PLAY OF THE GAME. He will now undergo surgery and miss at least four games.

The Ravens’ terrible no good very bad day was not done yet, however. Backup QB Tyler Huntley ALSO exited after hurting his toe in the second quarter.

That series of unfortunate events led to “Joe Fagnano”—a dude who sounds more like a pizza shop owner than a QB—taking over for the rest of the game.

The trickle-down QB-nomics resulted in Zay Flowers going catch-less …

"Is there—is there balm in Baltimore?—tell me—tell me, I implore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”

Ashton Jeanty is now a third-down back. Dwain McFarland recently called Jeanty "prime Rachaad White,” but at this point that might be an insult to 2023 Rachaad White.

Jeanty had TWO carries yesterday while Klint Kubiak elected to feed rookie Mike Washington (25-83) instead.

In case it doesn’t go without saying, Washington should be rostered everywhere.

Other players who had awful days:

  • Jacoby Brissett: Got benched after taking four sacks and throwing an INT. I doubt we see him again this year. It will be Gardner Minshew for the time being—he looked decent in relief (17-of-23 for 188 and 3 TDs)—and then Carson Beck after that.

  • Baker Mayfield: Technically not an awful day, but Baker made history by winning without completing a single pass in a torrential downpour at Raymond James Stadium.

Also: is Jonathan Taylor about to get traded to the Broncos and ruin this Jonah Coleman breakout?! Listen to Ian and Dwain break it all down on the Week 8 recap show …

Buy Jahmyr Gibbs, The Future Is Bright

What a runway for Jahmyr Gibbs to continue an incredible runout to his NFL career. In his first three seasons, his total yards never dipped below 1,261, and twice he’s gone over 1,800 yards. In the last two years, he’s combined for 38 TDs. Oh yeah, he just turned 24. The time for forward-thinking fantasy managers to buy in on Gibbs was right after he was selected 12th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Now he’s living up to the expectations of being the consensus 1.01. And savvy managers who invested in him are all smiles.

UNest works the same way. You don't wait until your kid is 16 to start building their financial future. You start now, when time is your single greatest advantage. A tax-advantaged investment account that grows with your child, set up in under 10 minutes. The long game is always the smartest play, on the field and off it.

Early Week 9 Waiver Wire: Target Adonai Mitchell

One of the names that was lost in all the hype that Omar Cooper has received the past two weeks is Adonai Mitchell. Remember him? He was the Jets WR who was getting so much attention in the preseason that it looked like HE was going to be the Robin to Garrett Wilson’s Batman in Gotham City. Then came a four-game stretch that he missed because of a finger injury, and with Cooper’s rise it looked like Mitchell might be the forgotten man.

Mitchell got back on the map with 7 catches for 142 yards and 1 TD, making him one of the top early waiver wire adds heading into Week 9. The big question, can he keep getting looks even with Cooper’s emergence? Alex Cupps is on the job to work things out. ⤵️

Week 8 Winners/Losers: Mike Washington & Ashton Jeanty

Can you have winners and losers for the same week from the same team? Case in point, the Raiders and their running backs Ashton Jeanty and Mike Washington. Jeanty was the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft a little over 18 months ago. Some called him a “generational talent,” though bad o-line play and injuries have slowed him down.

Washington blew through the NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.33 40-yard dash, eventually getting picked in the fourth round by the Raiders. It looked like he was going to be a handcuff to Jeanty. Now it looks like he’s going to be more, especially after their Week 8 workloads. Adam Pfeifer runs through the winners and losers for Week 8. ⤵️
