6 Sneaky Backfield Shake-Ups
Monitor them ...
While the Ashton Jeanty situation has dominated headlines—here’s where to draft him and Mike Washington Jr. by the way—there are interesting developments taking place across a bunch of backfields right now.
Here are six situations to closely monitor for your late-round RB target list:
Chargers: Keaton Mitchell 📉 vs. Kimani Vidal 📈
Mitchell sustained a “mild setback” and has missed two straight practices so I want to start proceeding with more caution here. Mitchell is still a very intriguing Zero-RB dart throw, but I think this brings Vidal into play. McDaniel continues to talk about all “three” backs whenever asked and Vidal has strong contingent value with either Mr. Wanted Poster or Omarion Hampton.
Cowboys: Jaydon Blue 📉 vs. Malik Davis 📈
This one has flipped quickly, but Davis has been earning more first-team work and earned 72% of the first-quarter snaps in the Cowboys second preseason game. This is a similar situation to the Chargers, where Blue has better standalone value like Mitchell, but Davis is currently the better “handcuff” to Javonte Williams, a la Vidal to Hampton.
Colts: Seth McGowan 🤷 vs. D.J. Giddens 🤷
McGowan has operated as the clear RB2 in the preseason and earned solid reviews, but that was with Giddens missing time. Now that he’s back at practice, we need more information on who is the RB2 here.
Giants: Tyrone Tracy 📉 vs. Najee Harris 📈
It might be Joever for Tracy after he followed up a blown pass protection in Week 1 with a lost fumble in Week 2. Both Harris (the new veteran addition) and Singletary (who got the start over Tracy) are ahead of Tracy at this point. I’d avoid everyone here other than Cam Skattebo—who didn’t play.
Saints: Alvin Kamara 📉 vs. Kendre Miller 📈
We know Kamara is scheduled to miss roughly a month with a knee injury and Devin Neal is also dealing with a hamstring injury. That leaves Miller as the clear RB2 in the short-term for the Saints. He’s expecting a bigger role.
Lions: Isiah Pacheco 📉 vs. Kareem Hunt 🤷
With Pacheco dealing with a sprained MCL and missing practices, the Lions brought in Hunt for a visit yesterday. This is an avoid for right now, but we will eventually care about the RB2 in Detroit.

Sleeper Mock Draft From The 1.07: WR-RB Start
We know the season is fun and all, especially the fantasy playoffs, but isn’t there something “extra” about draft szn? In this case, mock draft szn. We can keep practicing all we want, and then practice some more. Make sure to check out the Draft Champion for that very reason.

Remember way back at the end of July? Yeah, before all the injuries started to happen in practices and training camp. Before players started to shine and sputter under the watchful eyes of the media. That felt like a long time ago.
A lot sure has happened, so Zain Dhanani went in and updated his rankings, then highlighted six players who he’s actually changed how he’s drafting—or not drafting—them. There are some surprises in here. ⤵️
